The Maths Inspiration Show

The maths department took 40 students from Year 11 and Sixth Form to the Maths Inspiration Show in Birmingham.  Maths Inspiration is one of the largest maths enrichment programmes for teenagers in the UK. It's a chance for Year 11s and sixth formers to experience the UK's most inspiring maths speakers live, presenting mathematics in the context of exciting, real-world situations. The show had three interactive talks and a lively Q and A session at the end.

The show explored the mathematics behind digital photographs, digital music and TV and how maths is found in nature, including evolution.  The show gave students an understanding of how mathematics is used in science, technology and engineering.  It was entertaining but also inspired students to consider the importance of mathematics and how it might be a part of their future careers.
