Time for Tea with ScienceMon, 08 Dec 2025Since the start of the school year, top set students have been looking to achieve grades 7 and above in their GCSE Science qualifications. These students were given the chance to complete one past-paper per week over the weekend to be graded by an external examiner. This not only helped the students to revise but also gave them the opportunity to gain an understanding of what they can expect to see in their exams in the summer as well as what could be featured in the winter mock examinations. Students who completed papers were given a loyalty card which required all six papers to be handed in on time to receive a ‘special’ prize after their mock exams: a dinner party in the Academy cafeteria with a beautifully decorated table (by Mrs Dobson) alongside swift service (from Mr Breen) to get the students in the festive spirit. During the dinner party, students were treated with an abundance of snacks, treats, and drinks provided and organised by the science department. The group of students were also greeted by Lady Satchwell and their head of year Mr Jones who both stopped by to congratulate students on their dedication. This however, will not be the students’ only chance to receive rewards from the Science department as a second set of past papers are set to begin rolling out in the near future, giving students who missed out the first time an opportunity to receive a new surprise for the next set of mocks in Spring.
