World Book Day 2024

On Thursday 7^th March, the English Department celebrated World Book Day and in celebration of World Book Day 2024, Madeley Academy Book Club have shared recommendations for their favourite books. We hope you enjoy reading them!

Teal Yr 7

House of Hades, the fourth book from Heroes of Olympus is the best book I’ve read. Percy and Annabeth are trapped in Tartarus with their friend, Bob the Titan. He’s kind for sure!

Made by Rick Riordan, it is based on Legends – I would personally advise readers of action and violence read the Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus and Trials of Apollo series.

My favourite book is X-Men Red. It’s a book about well – The X Men! It has twists and turns and most importantly, action!

Harvey Yr 9

My favourite book is Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian. The Story follows Perseus Jackson, a 15 year old boy who has to fight on the frontlines of a bloody war against the bloodthirsty Titan Kronos: Lord of Time.

I recommend this book to anyone, especially Gravity Falls fans. But, if you read this before the first 4 books in the series then you have made a mistake upon the great Gods!

My favourite book is Kill Joy by Holly Jackson. The story follows a girl named Pip going to a murder mystery party with her friends. She enters the party tired and really not wanting to be there, and leaves furious and interested in the murder of a fictional character revealing a potential dark truth. Miss Crossland

My favourite book is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. It follows the life of Jane Eyre, an orphan who is rejected by her cruel Aunt and cousins and is sent away to boarding school. Jane eventually finds herself at the isolated Thornfield Hall with mysterious, but handsome, Mr Rochester. As strange things start to happen, Jane realises that all is not as it seems…

I love this book because it feels like we really get to know Jane as we follow her growing up. I’ve read the book a few times, and every time I feel like I can relate to something different in Jane’s life. I always feel sad when I finish reading it – I don’t want to leave the characters behind! There is also a really gripping supernatural element to the book which has a very dramatic conclusion.

If you enjoy books where you feel like you make friends with the characters, I would definitely recommend Jane Eyre. Although it was written a long time ago, it deals with themes which are still very relevant today!
