On Tuesday 9th February 6th form Performing Arts students took part in the Telford Dance Showcase at Oakengates Theatre. The students opened the show with their performance entitled ‘At the Movies’ This performance was comprised of two pieces Sky Fall and The Joker V Catwoman. Skyfall was inspired by the James Bond movies, taking inspiration both from the renowned song ‘Skyfall’ and the iconic Bond Girls in a Contemporary Jazz style. The Joker V Catwoman was inspired by the Batman movie specifically looking at the two characters the ‘Joker’ and ‘Catwoman’ as they battle to the death in the style of Street Dance. The second performance of the evening entitled ‘The Internal Battle’ was a Contemporary Dance piece that explored the idea of an internal struggle. The dynamically varied movements related closely to the accompaniments lyrical content ‘Elastic Heart’, as the performance piece was partially inspired by Sia’s publically noted personal struggle with mental health. It was a fantastic evening for the students who had the opportunity to work with professionals in the Performing Arts industry from lighting and sound technicians to interviewing with BBC Shropshire radio. The students were a credit to the academy in the way they conducted themselves and performed showing passion, dedication, and conviction of the highest level comparable to a professional standard.
