Adams Grammar School – 6-6

Madeley Academy 6th form football team played Adams grammar. The team went into the match with lots of confidence and excitement. However, we went 2-0 down in the first 15 minutes. We showed great resilience and came back to make it 4-2 before half time. At half time, we discussed what was going wrong and then set up completely different as a team in the second half. As a result, we scored two goals within 5 minutes of kicking off to make it 4-4. However, we conceded another 2 goals to set us back again, however with times of excellent play from the team we came back to make it 6-6 with a goal from Joe Danby within the dying seconds of the game. Overall, this game was a rollercoaster of emotions with happiness and frustration however as a team we all pulled through together to get a well-deserved point.

Thomas Telford School – 4-1

Madeley Academy 6th form football team played Thomas Telford unfortunately losing the game 4-1. This wasn’t our best team performance, not helped by having players out injured. The main reason for the loss was a lack of ball carriers within the midfield leading to us having to use the long ball tactic, which didn’t work as we had hoped for. Despite facing defeat, the team is ready for the next and ready to bounce back.

Ellesmere – 3-3

Madeley Academy 6th form football team played Ellesmere College. During the match, after an early mistake from the Ellesmere goalkeeper, Joe Rutter scored putting Madeley ahead early in the game. Then shortly after this a foul was given away rewarding a free kick to the opposition which they lofted into the back post. Going in at half time at 1-1 was a positive, however within minutes of the second half being down to 10 men temporarily, an early goal was conceded. From 2-1 down the our heads dropped and a third goal was conceded not long after putting us 3-1 down. The game went flat for a long period of the game, until in the last ten minutes impact sub Macara McNulty Hartnett came on. Macara scored 2 goals to equalise the game 3-3.
