Remembrance Day Tribute

Thu, 06 Nov 2014

Today 230 Year 7 and 8 students created a poppy 30 x 30 metres to reflect on the sacrifices that so many have made for us all. It was a powerful moment. Using large sheets of red, black and green fabric, students populated the field with their teachers to remember them. The students understood the importance of their part in the creation of the poppy. When the moment was right they held their sheet high in the air to respect all those who have lost their lives and made sacrifices so that we can lead our lives now. The poppy was absolutely huge and covered the greater part of one of the fields to the rear of the academy. This act of remembrance will form part of the live broadcast run every year at the academy. We understand the role we have in Remembrance and today the children at Madeley Academy took part in something quite wonderful so that they too will embed Remembrance into the rest of their lives. We were pleased too that the Vicar of Woodside, Linda Cronin was able to take part and is playing the last post for the students at the Academy Remembrance service.
