Sixth Form FAQs
What sort of students study in the Sixth Form?
We look for motivated, positive students who are committed to success and personal progress. The Sixth Form is made up of all types of students with different ideas, learning preferences and needs, but they all share the common goal of wanting to do well on their post 16 courses.
How many courses will I study?
This depends on your ability and career aspirations. Most students will study equivalent to three and a half A Levels however, some students may study a 4 A level programme. Some vocational courses such as BTEC Sport are available as Single and Double options. These can be combined with A Level courses and/or other vocational courses.
What are the links with Thomas Telford School?
Madeley Academy runs on the TTS model and shares resources and staff with its sister school. This means that you will benefit from the expertise of both Schools. Some lessons may operate on the TTS site and transport will be provided if this is the case.

When do I know if I have a place?
Once you have applied, you will be invited in for a one-to-one meeting to discuss your course choices – this usually takes place in December/January. After this, offers of places will be made. Applicants who wish to accept the offer of a place will return the proforma given to them.
How do I choose my courses?
There are course videos and the prospectus available on the website which will help you find out more. You can seek advice from staff or email lholbrook@madeleyacademy.com for any further information.
Courses that you choose will depend on your predicted GCSE grades, your career aims and your subject preferences. Our bespoke, in-house careers team are always here to help you. You can email careers@madeleyacademy.com
What if my GCSE grades are different from my predictions?
Students enrol in August after GCSE results are published. This is when you will have a second meeting with a member of staff to review subject choices. It is possible to change courses from original choices if this fits on the timetable and if there is space on the courses.
