EAL
Students who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL) are supported in our inclusive learning environment to help them progress in their education. When a new EAL learner joins us, they receive an initial assessment so we can understand their current level of English and identify the most effective next steps.
To build strong foundations quickly, we use FlashAcademy for early intervention and targeted language development. This platform allows students to practise vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation both in school and at home and students’ progress through bands A-D.
Alongside structured learning, students are supported in lessons through personalised passports, bilingual dictionaries, visual resources, and teacher guidance. Our EAL offer also includes optional weekly drop-in sessions where students can ask questions, get help with classwork, or practise English in a relaxed setting.
To ensure our EAL learners receive the right level of challenge and support, progress is carefully monitored throughout the year via progress reporting points. Above all, our approach is rooted in inclusion: EAL students learn alongside their peers, participate fully in school life, and are encouraged to develop confidence as independent, successful learners at the Academy.
