 Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions....

What sort of students will stay on?

We look for motivated, positive students who are committed to success and personal progress. The Sixth Form is made up of all types of students with different ideas, learning preferences and needs, but they all share the common goal of wanting to do well on their post 16 courses.

How do I apply?

Madeley students will recieve preferential treatment for places, but must complete an internal application form by 24th October 2010

When do I know if I have a place?

Senior staff will hold discussions with applicants during November and December 2010 to clarify interests and course opportunities. Offers of places will be made in January 2011. Applicants who wish to accept the offer of a place will return the proforma given to them.

How do I choose my courses?

You will recieve lots of advice and guidance about which course is right for you from the senior teaching staff, your Personal Tutor and Connexions. This will depend on your predicted GCSE grades, you career aims and your subject preferences.

What if my GCSE grades are different from my predictions?

Students enrol in August 2011 after GCSE results are published. This is when you will have a second meeting with a member of staff to review subject choices. There will still be a place for you at Madeley, it may just be on a different course.

What is Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)?

EMA is cash in your hands to help you carry on learning.

EMA spells fewer money worries with up to £30 a week during term time (it's paid straight into your bank account).

Whatever course you study at the Academy, EMA could help you with the cost of books, equipment or anything useful to continue learning.

Who do I speak with if I have more questions?

General advice is available from Lady Satchwell, Mr Woods and Mr Reaney. For further information about training courses and the Employment Training Programme, please see Mr Lawson.

For more information on courses you can talk to subject leaders who will be able to answer your questions. Mrs Kynaston will also be able to provide career guidance when you need it.

By choosing to continue studying at Madeley Academy Sixth Form Centre you will be opting to remain in an environment where you are known, where Academy staff care about both your personal development and your academic progress.

You will be in the unique situation whereby you are the leaders of a thriving Academy, providing positive role models to younger students and setting the standard for all future Sixth Form students as the first Sixth Formers at Madeley Academy.
